Bio.
Slovenian soprano MOJCA BITENC opens her 2024/25 season in the Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana as Mimì (G. Puccini, La Bohème), she will appear also as Violetta Valery (G. Verdi, La Traviata), Rosalinde (J. Strauss jr., Die Fledermaus), Leonora (G. Verdi, Il Trovatore) and Manon (G. Puccini, Manon Lescaut). Concerts include Bach's Magnificat in Slovenian Philharmonics.
She had performed in both Slovenian opera houses in numerous roles, including Papagena and Pamina (W. A. Mozart, The Magic Flute), Euridice (C. W. Gluck, Orfeo ed Euridice), Liù (G. Puccini, Turandot), Ksenija (V. Parma, Ksenija), Donna Anna (W. A. Mozart, Don Giovanni), Antonia (J. Offenbach, Tales of Hoffmann), Violetta Valery (G. Verdi, La Traviata), Mařenka (B. Smetana, The Bartered Bride), Nedda (R. Leoncavallo, I Pagliacci), Marguerite (Ch. Gounod, Faust), Micaëla (G. Bizet, Carmen), Lisa (F. Lehar, Das Land des Lächelns), Mimì (G. Puccini, La Bohème) and Fiordiligi (W. A. Mozart, Così fan tutte) .
At the summer festival Zomeropera in Alden Biesen (Belgium) she appeared as Tatiana (P. I. Tchaikovsky, Eugene Onegin), at the summer festival in Bregenz (Austria) she interpreted Countess Almaviva in Mozart's The Marriage of the Figaro, and in 2018 she returned back with Micaëla (G. Bizet, Carmen) performed on the famous stage on the lake. She was a guest at HNK Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka (Croatia) as Maja (Z. Juranić, Opera after Kamov) and Nedda (R. Leoncavallo, I Pagliacci), at the Tiroler Festspiele in Erl (Austria) as Gerhilde (R. Wagner, Die Walküre) and as Donna Anna (W. A. Mozart, Don Giovanni) in Frankfurt Opera house (Germany).
She received the student Prešeren Prize of the Academy of Music in Ljubljana as well as several prizes at various international singing competitions (1st prize, Lav Mirski, Osijek; 2nd prize and audience prize, Reka; 2nd prize, Nowy Sacz; 3rd prize, Salzburg, Mozart competition; 2nd prize, audience prize, prize for best soprano and prize for best interpretation of a Mozart work, Deutschlandsberg).
With a summa cum laude diploma, she completed her master's studies in singing at the Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana under the tutelage of Barbara Jernejčič Fürst, and also postgraduate studies in singing at the Zagreb Academy of Music with Vlatka Oršanić. She further developed her skills at masterclasses with renowned artists such as Helena Lazarska, Vlatka Oršanić, KS Brigitte Fassbaender and as an isaOperaVienna scholarship holder with KS Edda Moser in Vienna. She also graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana.
As a soloist, she worked with various orchestras and choirs (Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Slovenian Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra, RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Budapest Opera Orchestra, Krakow Opera Orchestra...). As a concert singer, she also collaborates with various pianists.
